The LEPII-EPE

LEPII-EPE is a mixed research unit with the CNRS and the Université Pierre Mendès France at Grenoble, affiliated to the Economics and Management UFR (DGES) and employing 14 full-time researchers and about ten associate researchers and doctorate students. Since its creation, it has worked in connection with major changes in economic analysis of industries and the power market, public policies and decision-making tools.

During the 1970s and 1980s, IEPE was a driving force in the development of national and international sectorial models; it developed methods of defining energy policies and carried out research into the evaluation of public policies (technological policies, power productivity incentives etc).

From the 1980s onwards, IEPE has turned its attention to new issues: the determining factors in technical change in the power industry, the easing of restrictions in power network industries, institutional reforms in developing economies and countries, the operation of globalised markets and the widening of energy policies to include the environment. IEPE's contributions are consistently aimed at creating a link between theoretical thought and the empirical investigations centred on specific issues. They are not only analytical (effectiveness of industrial organisational models and market institutions, economy in technical change and political economy of international markets) but designed to help in the making of decisions, most notably in their use of models.
