Michel Chatelus is professor at the Political Sciences Institute of Grenoble and research fellow at IEPE.

His main research fields concern economics and geopolitics of oil and natural gas, Arab and Middle-East Economies, Euro-Mediterranean relations and environmental questions in the Mediterranean area.

Michel Chatelus has been a consultant for national and international organisations such as Unido, Unesco, United Nations Programme for the Environment, Oecd, Centre d'analyse et de prévision, Arab Center for petroleum research, The "Blue Plan" for the Mediterranean, The Saudi minister of Planning, etc.

He holds a M.S. degree in Economics (Kansas University), and a Ph. D.(Economics) from the University of Paris.

He has taught Economics at Saint-Joseph University, Beirut from 1967 to 1972, and at the Economic School of the University Pierre Mendès France in Grenoble from 1972 to 1984. He has served as vice-president in charge of research at this University from 1991 to 1997.

He has been the founder and director of the "Research and study group on Economics and Society of the Mediterranean and the Middle" (GRESMO), and co-responsible for the creation of the research network EMMA, (Economies of the Mediterranean and the Arab World).
